Created by Dutch navigators Keyser and de Houtman in the late 16th century, representing the bird-of-paradise. The name comes from the Greek 'apous' meaning footless.
Observing Highlights
A faint far-southern constellation near the south celestial pole. Contains a few globular clusters and double stars for southern observers.
