Créée par les navigateurs néerlandais Keyser et de Houtman à la fin du XVIe siècle, représentant l'oiseau de paradis. Le nom vient du grec « apous » signifiant sans pieds.

Points Forts de l'Observation

Constellation australe faible proche du pôle céleste sud. Contient quelques amas globulaires et étoiles doubles pour les observateurs de l'hémisphère sud.
