Mythology
The Charioteer, often identified with Erichthonius of Athens, who invented the four-horse chariot. Capella represents the goat Amalthea that nursed the infant Zeus.
Observing Highlights
Rich in open clusters including M36, M37, and M38 — a stunning trio for binoculars and small telescopes. Capella is the sixth brightest star in the sky. Best in winter evenings.
