Mythology

The Hare, placed at Orion's feet. In some myths it was placed there by Hermes because of the hare's swiftness. Ancient Egyptians saw it as the boat of Osiris.

Observing Highlights

Contains the globular cluster M79 and the deep red carbon star R Leporis (Hind's Crimson Star). Located just south of Orion, best seen in winter.
