Mythology
The Serpent Bearer, identified with Asclepius, the healer so skilled he could raise the dead. Zeus struck him down but placed him in the sky. He holds the serpent Serpens.
Observing Highlights
A large constellation straddling the celestial equator with many globular clusters: M9, M10, M12, M14, M19, M62, M107. Also contains Barnard's Star, the second-closest star system to the Sun.
