Mythology
The great hunter of Greek mythology, son of Poseidon. He boasted he could kill any creature on Earth, so Gaia sent a scorpion to slay him. Orion and Scorpius were placed on opposite sides of the sky.
Observing Highlights
One of the most spectacular constellations. Contains the Great Orion Nebula (M42/M43), Betelgeuse (red supergiant), Rigel (blue supergiant), the Horsehead Nebula, the Flame Nebula, and Mintaka-Alnilam-Alnitak forming the famous Belt.
