Mythology
The Serpent held by Ophiuchus, the only constellation divided into two parts: Serpens Caput (head) and Serpens Cauda (tail). Represents the snake of Asclepius.
Observing Highlights
Contains M5, one of the finest globular clusters, and M16 (Eagle Nebula) with the famous Pillars of Creation. Also home to Arp 220, the nearest ultraluminous infrared galaxy.
