Delta Andromedae is an orange giant of spectral type K3III at magnitude 3.27 in Andromeda. Located about 101 light-years from Earth, it has a luminosity of roughly 68 times solar. It lies in the southern foot of Andromeda, near the border with Pisces.
Observing Tips
Delta And lies south of the main chain of Andromeda stars, near the border with Pisces and Triangulum. It is a warm orange star that helps define the lower boundary of Andromeda's figure. Best observed September through January.
History
Delta Andromedae has no widely used traditional name. Andromeda is one of the 48 Ptolemaic constellations, representing the mythological princess chained to a rock as a sacrifice to a sea monster.
Fun Facts
Delta And lies close to the celestial border between Andromeda and Pisces, in a region rich with faint galaxies belonging to the Pisces-Perseus supercluster.
