Mythology
The Archer, a centaur aiming a bow. Often identified with Chiron (though Chiron is also associated with Centaurus). The center of our Milky Way galaxy lies in this direction.
Observing Highlights
Extraordinarily rich in deep-sky objects. Contains M8 (Lagoon Nebula), M17 (Omega Nebula), M20 (Trifid Nebula), M22 (globular), M24 (Sagittarius Star Cloud), and many more Messier objects. The galactic center lies here.
